PALLET FURNITURE

Have you ever seen all the shipping pallets around factories or other places ? Well most of those pallets are made from oak boards, used because of the strength they have.Oak is one of our strongest woods and has a very nice grain pattern.Who among us does`nt prefer oak furniture to the pressboard furniture you can buy anywhere and will not hold up very well.Oak furniture will last for generations. With this in mind and the fact that pallets can be obtained for free from most anywhere, they make a perfect source for your wood working needs. Here are a few examples of things I`ve built from pallets from where I work.

This page will be viewed best at a setting of 800X600X16bpp

This is my computer desk. All solid oak,and made from pallets.

These are a pair of matching end tables I also built. The dowel rods in the magazine racks are the only thing not from pallets.

Here is our entertainment center , not oak ,but made from nice pine from pallets.

I hope after looking at some of the things I`ve used pallets for that other people will look a little closer at maybe recycling the lumber in them rather than burning them or throwing them away.I also want to add that if you use the lumber from shipping pallets to be sure and let it air-dry for a while. The moisture content is usually pretty high on new pallets and will cause the wood to crack and shrink as it drys.I would hate for any one to have a project ruined by warping or cracking lumber.
